Research interests
I am interested in understanding how biodiversity is distributed in space and in time, on the effects of human activities on those spatial and temporal patterns, and on the implications for biodiversity conservation. I mainly work at macroecological scales, by analyzing the distribution of many species across large spatial scales. Some of the research questions I am currently interested in:
- Identifying priority areas for conservation, including protected areas and Key Biodiversity Areas;
- Evaluating the effectiveness of conservation measures, including of protected areas;
- Macroecology of bird migration;
- Understanding species’ sensitivity to anthropogenic pressures;
- Understanding the historical human footprint on today’s ecosystems (with a focus on ancient whale exploitation).
