    Associate Professor in spatial ecology at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle                                                                                                                                                        

    My research focuses on movement ecology: I study the factors influencing animal movements (especially dispersal) and gene flow, with a particular emphasis on landscape composition and structure. I also study how human-triggered landscape modifications like fragmentation affect animal movements; and the consequences on population functioning and structure. My research is hence tightly linked to the management/conservation of populations, and to landscape management (e.g. connectivity restoration, french Trame Verte et Bleue policy).

     THEMES DE RECHERCHE

    Mes thèmes de recherche concernent la phylogénie, la phylogéographie et l'évolution moléculaire à partir de l'analyse des séquences de gènes mitochondriaux et nucléaires. L’objectif est de répondre, à l’aide de l’outil moléculaire, à des questions de biodiversité et systématique évolutive à l’échelle des vertébrés (mammifères, amphibiens et reptiles). Je m’intéresse aussi à l’échelle temporelle (datations moléculaires) des différents niveaux de diversifications ce qui permet de confronter les inférences moléculaires avec les données morphologiques, paléontologiques et biogéographiques.

    RESEARCH

    My research focuses on the geographic distribution of animal behaviours and traits. By combining ecoinformatics approaches with naturalist expertise, my projects explore an interface between functional ecology, biogeography and behavioural ecology

    Main active projects :  

    - SONGMAP - acoustic biogeography of the world's passerines. Vocalizations ensure informational connectivity among the individuals of a soniferous species assemblages. In this project, we explore the global diversity of strategies for information coding in Passeriform birds and its community-level consequences. See also the ACOUCENEproject on acoustic connectivity in bird communities (2022 - 2025, FRB/CESAB)

    - C-BIRDS - functional biogeography of seabirds in the Southern ocean. Antarctic seabirds exhibit a fascinating range of behavioral and functional strategies to cope with extreme climates and the distribution of resources over the ocean. We adopt a spatial modeling framework to understand the abiotic and biotic factors organizing these strategies across the austral ocean. See the C-BIRDS project and thesis.

    - COCPITT - assessing the spatial impacts of the roadkill risk on wildlife. We test the potential of citizen-generated opportunistic wildlife records to assist spatial planning policies through regional-scale biodiversity models, currently using the roadkill risk as a study model with options of extensions to other biodiversity monitoring questions. See the results of the initial COCPITTproject within the ITTECOP program

    COLLABORATIONS

    I am involved in a range of research projects on various aspects of population, community and ecosystem ecology with both basic and applied outcomes. See for instance : 

    - QWERTY project : how fire dynamics impact the distribution of functional strategies in Mediterranean forests

    - ECOPHY-ANTAVIA : population ecology of antarctic seabirds

    - CISSTAT network : fostering interactions between academic and non scientific stakeholders on data-based ecological monitoring and expertise

    TEACHING

    Certificat en analyse de données pour l'écologie(français uniquement - french only) : trois semaines de formation pratique aux analyses statistiques de données pour les experts de la biodiversité et les gestionnaires d'espaces naturels

    Master Biodiversité - Environnement : I coordinate a master program at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes - Paris Sciences Lettres for students willing to engage into carreers in academic research, biodiversity expertise and management of protected areas. 

    Within this program, I teach courses on general ecology, methods for ecological data analysis and interactions between public decision and science

    Bioacoustic Winter School: Within this international, world-class school on bioacoustics, led by Saint Etienne University, I teach principles of statistical analysis applied to acoustic data


  • PhD candidate – EPHE & CEN Occitanie

    Ma thèse a pour objectif d’étudier l’efficacité des mesures compensatoires d’un grand projet d’infrastructure, la LGV « Contournement Nîmes-Montpellier » (CNM). Les mesures sont majoritairement des mesures agro-écologiques à destination des outardes canepetières, œdicnèmes criards, lézards ocellés, orthoptères, dianes… L’étude permet d’appréhender les facteurs de succès ou d’échecs d’un projet compensatoire dans son ensemble et également d’apporter un retour sur des protocoles d’évaluation des mesures. Cette thèse permet aussi d’améliorer les connaissances sur l’écologie d’espèces méditerranéennes et mener à des préconisations de mesures de conservation.

    Situé à l’interface recherche-conservation, mes missions consistent à analyser et valoriser des données de suivi ornithologiques afin d’appuyer le travail des gestionnaires d’espaces naturels.

    A côté de cela, je travaille aussi en freelance sur des projets de valorisation de suivis en herpétologie en partenariat avec diverses associations et laboratoires de recherche.

    My research interests lie at the interface between population dynamics, quantitative ecology, conservation and life history evolution. I mostly focus on empirical work, on wild animal populations, but I also do some methodological development and a bit of theoretical work.
