Long-term in situ experimental facilities and a 3-hectare experimental field are used in parallel with controlled environment facilities.

In addition, the Ecotron project, a national facility for studying the response of ecosystems and organisms to anthropogenic changes in the environment, was led by CEFE from 2000 to 2010.
