GEMEX

The GEMEX platform is the CEFE’s largest platform. It has 400m2 of dedicated workspace and hosts around 90 users per year, from all of the CEFE’s departments (and sometimes from outside the CEFE).

The three areas of expertise of the GEMEX platform are:

-Genomics

-Molecular Ecology

-Experimental Evolution

The missions of the GEMEX platform are :

- the development of tools and techniques in its areas of expertise

 - rendering these tools and techniques available to the users of the platform

- advice on the choice of tools and methods

- culturing and breeding of aquatic invertebrates and algae

- transfer of skills and training in tools and techniques to the users of the platform

- monitoring of new technology

The GEMEX platform consists of several laboratory rooms:

- four molecular biology laboratories (2 pre-PCR, post-PCR, dedicated gel-staining room)

- a "sensitive DNA" laboratory

- two microbiology laboratory (of which one L2)

- a virology laboratory

- two aquatic animal rearing facilities

- a microalgae culture room

The GEMEX platform collaborates closely with CEMEB labex platforms (Genseq, MBB, qPCR, degraded DNA etc.) that host complementary infrastructure and equipment, (e.g., for sequencing, genotyping, computing clusters).

GEMEX equipment :

- Molecular biology equipment (centrifuges, electrophoresis tanks, pipettes...)

- 1 Bead Blaster24

- 1 pipetting robot

- 5 PCR Thermocyclers

- 3 PCR workstations

- 1 Nanodrop spectrometer

- 1 Qubit

- Software: GeneMapper, Codoncode

- Microbiology equipment (4 PSM Biosafety Cabinets, 2 laminar flow hoods, 3 incubator shakers, 5 incubators)

- 2 TECAN spectrofluorometers, 1 flow cytometer

- Washing facilities (1 autoclave, 1 benchtop autoclave, dishwasher, etc.)
