Research interest

My PhD work focuses on the vocal communication in two species of burrowing petrels in Kerguelen: the Blue Petrel (Halobaena caerulea) and the Antarctic Prion (Pachyptila desolata). During the breeding period, these seabirds occupy burrows in crowded colonies and they are vocally active at night. In this context, acoustic and olfactory communications may play a major role in information exchange. While recent studies investigated the function of olfaction, the vocalizations remain poorly studied.

The aim of my PhD is to study :

  1. the stable and temporary information transmitted in male calls
  2. the role of male calls in sexual selection
