    Situé à l’interface recherche-conservation, mes missions consistent à analyser et valoriser des données de suivi ornithologiques afin d’appuyer le travail des gestionnaires d’espaces naturels.

    A côté de cela, je travaille aussi en freelance sur des projets de valorisation de suivis en herpétologie en partenariat avec diverses associations et laboratoires de recherche.

    My research interests lie at the interface between population dynamics, quantitative ecology, conservation and life history evolution. I mostly focus on empirical work, on wild animal populations, but I also do some methodological development and a bit of theoretical work.

    About me

    Français

    Je travaille à l’interface entre recherche fondamentale et conservation de la biodiversité. Ma principale motivation est de comprendre et d’atténuer l’impact des activités humaines sur la biodiversité. Mon domaine de prédilection étant l’écologie des populations, je m’intéresse surtout aux impacts à l’échelle des populations animales, mais pas uniquement. Les méthodes que j’utilise s’appuient beaucoup sur la modélisation (projections démographiques, notamment) et sur l’analyse statistique de données de suvis de la faune (comptages, capture-recapture, occupancy). Je travaille de près avec de nombreux acteurs de la biodiversité, sur des projets touchant à de nombreux taxons de vertébrés : oiseaux marins, oiseaux terrestres, mammifères terrestres, phoques, amphibiens.

    Actuellement, mes travaux de recherche se concentrent sur l’étude des impacts de la transition énergétique, notamment du développement de l’éolien, sur les oiseaux. Dans le cadre du projet MAPE, j’ai notamment développé une application Shiny (EolPop) qui permet de quantifier l’impact démographiques des collisions d’oiseaux avec les éoliennes. J’ai ensuite développé l’application EolPower, qui permet de dimensionner les suivis réalisés sur les parcs éoliens pour estimer la mortalité aviaire. Depuis 2022, je travaille sur le projet BIRD DYNAMIC qui a pour objectif d’estimer l’impact cumulé des parcs éoliens en mer sur les populations d’oiseaux marins de la façade Atlantique française.

    My work is at the crossroad between fundamental research and conservation. My biggest motivation is to understand and mitigate the impact of human activities on biodiversity. My main area of interest is population ecology. Therefore, my research mostly focusses on impacts at the population scale, but not exclusively. The methods I use rely heavily on modeling (demographic projections, in particular) and statistical analysis of wildlife monitoring data (counts, capture-recapture, occupancy). I work closely with many biodiversity stakeholders, on projects involving a wide range of vertebrate taxa: seabirds, land birds, terrestrial mammals, seals and amphibians.

    Currently, my research is focused on studying the impact of the energy transition, particularly the development of wind power, on birds. As part of the MAPE project, I developed a Shiny application (EolPop) to quantify the demographic impact of bird collisions with wind turbines. I then developed the EolPower application, which helps defining the study design of carcass search surveys that are carried out on wind farms to estimate avian mortality. Since 2022, I have been working on the BIRD DYNAMIC project, which aims to estimate the cumulative impact of offshore wind farms on seabird populations along the French Atlantic coast.

    @Th_Lenormand

    My principal area of research is Evolutionary genetics and evolutionary ecology. I have a broad expertise in evolutionary biology, genetics and ecology.

    I have been working on adaptation and mutation, local adaptation, evolution of genetic systems (sex, recombination, sex chromosomes), evolution of gene duplicates, speciation, genetic conflicts, dispersal, biotic interactions (parasites, microbiota), statistics and fitness measures. I have been working with many empirical systems (vertebrates, insects, crustaceans, fungi, plants, helminths, bacteria), in the lab and in the field.

    Currently, my scientific activity rests on three axes: first I do theoretical work (theoretical population genetics, statistics, and bioinformatics development). I am particularly interested currently on the evolution of gene expression (on sex chromosomes or in asexuals). Second, I work on small crustaceans Artemia and Daphnia. I’m particularly interested currently on sex-asex transitions, biotic interactions and adaptation to temperature. Third, I do experimental evolution on E. coli. I'm particularly interested on testing fitness landscape models, adaptation to different doses of antibiotics, and coevolution of species coexisting by frequency dependence.

    Research interests by keywords

    Project: How much difference are Protected Areas making to the conservation of biodiversity?

    Supervisor: Ana RODRIGUES

    My PhD aims to understand the effectiveness of protected areas in conserving biodiversity, using bird monitoring datasets. Comparing spatially biodiversity inside and outside protected areas, I wish to understand which biodiversity metrics (abundance, richness, specialisation, rarity index, endemism...) are affected by the presence of protected areas across the globe and how.

    I am currently in postdoc (Labex CEMEB grant) using radar data to describe cooperative foraging strategy in griffon vultures and how this strategy is modulated by the food (i.e. carcasses) predictability.

    My PhD combined theoretical and applied research questions. For the first I was focusing on the influence of sociality on individual movement decisions and collective foraging strategies of griffon vultures. For the latter, I investigated whether those birds showed avoidance behaviour of wind turbines. To do so I relied on two type of technology: radar and GPS telemetry. PhD supervisors: Olivier Duriez et Yann Tremblay (Marbec).
