Department Dynamics and Governance of Ecological Systems

RESEARCH Dynamics and Governance of Ecological Systems

The objective of the department is to understand the dynamics of ecological systems and of biodiversity, in connection with human activities. Our research lines are developed in an integrated way that favours the interfaces between population and community dynamics, evolutionary ecology, and social sciences, and their applications to land management and to species and ecosystem conservation. Work is grounded in long-term research programmes with a substantial investment in field experimentation.

The department’s activities are structured within five teams, focusing in the following areas:

-          Dynamics and adaptation of plant populations (DAPV team, Pierre-Olivier Cheptou)

-          Dynamics of landscapes and of biodiversity (DPB team, Ana Rodrigues)

-          Dynamics of socio-ecological systems (DSSE team, Raphaël Mathevet)

-          Arthropode ecology and global change (EACG team, Pierre-Jay Robert)

-          Vertebrate ecology and biogeography (EBV team, Roger Prodon)

The department is chaired by Jean-Louis Martin.

Keywords: biogeography, governance, conservation, adaptive management, human/nature interactions, participatory approach, environmental philosophy, restoration ecology, landscape, socio-ecological systems, population biology, genetics and adaptation.
